Drak Yerba: Cave Shrines of Tibetans´ Most Esteemed Teachers


I have visited Drak Yerba twice by now, and still want to jump at any chance to be back. On this hilly natural amphitheatre, you overlook the splendid snow-capped mountain chains. On the side of the craggy mountains, there are numerous caves, where the most esteemed teachers of Tibetan Buddhism used to meditate for years.

Guru Rinpoche, the most esteemed teacher who basically founded the Tibetan tantric tradition used to practice here. As well as many others important teachers whose name, if you are a Tibetan, will resound in your body, producing in you the awe and a desire to kneel.

It is said that the most enigmatic, advanced yogins meditate inside caves in or near Himalayas. Drak Yerba is such a place that its energetic field attract the most special of them.

Conversation with Magic Stones

(Abstract statues have a bad name for being erudite. Apparently it has no relevance to our life. When I saw one in the museum, I always felt constipated about what it could mean to me. But overtime, I came to appreciate their "silence" as their reluctance to expose themselves eagerly --  a sign of modesty and dignified reservedness. They only reveal their meaning when the right timing and the sensitivity of the viewers intersect.  There is one such statue in my university. It is called Conversation with Magic Stones. It meant nothing to me until one day, when I was in a state of vulnerability, it striked me unexpectedly. A Life of A Walnut Tree

Tree Doctor There is a walnut tree in my yard that is more than 500 years old. I did not know that my landlady Barbara, whom I live with in the house, has contracted a tree doctor to look after her aging tree until one afternoon, in the guest room, a smiling elderly man came up and introduced to me as such. In fact, he has cured her walnut tree of a serious ailment some twenty years ago. At the time, its topmost growth suddenly died, twigs hung limply from the branches, and the insects and fungi attacked it with little resistance on its part.
